This winter, the cyclo-cross in Gullegem will form part of the Telenet Superprestige. The race is scheduled on Saturday 7 January. On 3 December, Boom will be taking the place of Gavere which, this winter, will be part of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup.
The Telenet Superprestige programme for winter 2022 – 2023 is now complete. Gullegem has been added to the calendar on 7 January. After Gavere graduated to the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup, Boom is planned on 3 December.
"Because Gavere is graduating to the World Cup, Boom will be taking over Gavere’s spot", says Flanders Classics CEO Tomas Van Den Spiegel. "So, on 3 December, we will all be gathering at De Schorre, a course that in the meantime we have got to know very well. But new in the Telenet Superprestige is the race in Gullegem. A week before the national championships, we go to West Flanders for the penultimate leg of the oldest regularity criterion."
"Joining the Telenet Superprestige is the next step in our growth process", says a satisfied organisation. "In this way, Gullegem immediately takes its place among monuments such as the cyclo-crosses of Ruddervoorde, Heusden-Zolder and Diegem. Moreover, it is the penultimate cyclo-cross in the regularity criterion, which immediately promises to be an exciting event in Gullegem."
Flanders Classics is looking forward to the new collaboration with Gullegem. "In Gullegem, we have found a particularly enthusiastic new partner", says Van Den Spiegel. "It is of course with pride that we announce this new collaboration. We are already looking forward to heading to Gullegem just after the turn of the year, a beautiful race in the final weekend of the Christmas holiday."
Flanders Classics also found a convenient date for Boom after Gavere graduated to the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. The race is now planned for the same weekend as last season, so the first Saturday in December. "For the date for Boom, we consulted the municipality of Boom, the province of Antwerp and the Provincial Recreation Domain De Schorre. In the end, 3 December was the date that was acceptable to all the parties involved", concludes Van Den Spiegel.
These latest additions complete the Telenet Superprestige calendar. The oldest regularity criterion commences on 29 October in Ruddervoorde and concludes on 11 February 2023 in Middelkerke.
