New cycling event Flandrienne focuses on women
On Saturday, August 23, Bar Gazon in Ghent will be the setting for a unique cycling event for women: Flandrienne Presented by HiPRO. This brand-new event, organised by Peloton, is entirely dedicated to women who love cycling. Three different routes heading toward the Flemish Ardennes and a fun side program aim to bring Flandriennes together from all corners.
Following the rising popularity of cycling in Flanders and the top-level performances of Lotte Kopecky, more and more women are finding their way to the bike. Participants in cycling events are still mostly men. With Flandrienne, part of the Proximus Cycling Challenge, Peloton is organizing a new event in Ghent that puts women in the spotlight.
Ambassadors Linde Merckpoel and professional cyclist Mieke Docx enthusiastically took part in the promotional video. “Cycling isn’t just about speed, distance, or winning,” says Mieke Docx. “It’s about being on the road together, encouraging and helping each other, laughing a lot – even when it gets tough – and enjoying the small moments in between. That’s where the real power of a Flandrienne lies for me!”
Elke Bleyaert, founder of The Female Cycling Tribe, has been building a women’s cycling community for years. Naturally, she wholeheartedly supports events like Flandrienne. Elke Bleyaert: “It’s beautiful to see that when women ride together, they truly get inspired by one another. They motivate each other, and new friendships are formed every time!”

Practical Info
Participants can choose a ride that suits their level: 50, 80, or 120 km. The routes head toward the Flemish Ardennes, with elevations ranging from 200 to 1,000 meters. You can ride solo, with friends, or join one of the fun, organized pelotons.
Start and finish take place on the grounds of the summer bar Gazon in Ghent. Upon arrival, each participant will be treated to an exclusive Flandrienne cocktail or mocktail, courtesy of the organizers. Together with event partners, the organizers are also creating several additional activities at the finish line to ensure that Flandrienne becomes a full experience — far beyond just a fun bike ride with cycling friends. You’ll also be able to check out the many partner booths, all tailored to the female cyclist.
