On the eve of the start of the 60th edition of the Vlaamse Druivenkoers, Alpecin-Fenix has added its leader Mathieu van der Poel to the starting list. Due to the presence of the Dutch champion, the race in and around Overijse has instantly gained an extra favourite.
There were already a lot of great names on the list of participants of this jubilee edition of the Vlaamse Druivenkoers, but now another one is added. Mathieu van der Poel will lead his team Alpecin - Fenix. It will not be a first for the Dutch champion in Overijse. In 2019 he was the strongest in De Brabantse Pijl in April, the spring classic which, like the Vlaamse Druivenkoers, is decided with a final in the heart of the Druivenstreek. Later that year, in December, the Dutchman was able to win a second time in Overijse when he also wrote the Vlaamse Druivencross to his name.
Whether Van der Poel will be able to live up to his role as favourite in the Druivenkoers, we will know on Saturday around 5.30 pm. The race can be followed live at home on Sporza.be from 16h00 onwards.
