The announcement of the new World Cup races means that Zonhoven and Diegem are no longer part of the Telenet Superprestige. They will be replaced by newcomers Niel and Heusden-Zolder, who receive a spot on the calendar of the oldest series in cyclo-cross.
Together with Gieten, Boom, Gavere, Ruddervoorde, Merksplas and Middelkerke, Niel and Heusden-Zolder will form the Telenet Superprestige 2020 – 2021. For the sandy race in the Kuil of Zonhoven and the evening race in artificial light in Diegem, a new chapter begins as they become part of the World Cup. Their places will be taken by two newcomers: the race in Niel at the annual fair on 11 November 2020 and the former World Cup race in Heusden-Zolder on 26 December 2020.
“Flanders Classics is proud to announce a strong Superprestige”, says Tomas Van Den Spiegel, CEO of Flanders Classics. “The shift of Zonhoven and Diegem to the World Cup is not at the expense of the level of the Superprestige, on the contrary. Our newcomers, Niel and Heusden-Zolder, are two races that carry a rich history and thus fit perfectly into the oldest series in cyclo-cross.”
When at a later stage the exact dates of the international calendar are published by the UCI, there will also be an announcement concerning the exact calendar of the Telenet Superprestige.
