The 23-year-old Mads Pedersen is the new world champion! The Dane won in Yorkshire after a tough race in hellish conditions. To the fans of the spring classics, Pedersen is no stranger: in 2018 he finished second in the Tour of Flanders and in 2016 he wrote Ghent-Wevelgem U23 to his name.
Mads Pedersen had super-legs in Yorkshire. He attacked 50 kilometres before the finish line and eventually beat Matteo Trentin, one of the favourites, in a sprint. The young Dane might have won the world championship by surprise, but fans of the spring classics have known him for a while.
In the Tour of Flanders 2018, Pedersen finished second after powering 80 kilometres in the attack. Only Niki Terpstra was able to overtake him. A few days before, Pedersen became fifth in Dwars door Vlaanderen. Also in the U23-category, he was able to surprise people. In 2016 he won the Kattekoers (Ghent-Wevelgem U23) in a sprint finish.
Pedersen already showed himself in the Flanders Classics spring classics. The coming season, all eyes will be on his rainbow jersey. Will he again be able to shine in one of our races?
