“The final was not easy”, according to Lepistö. “Canyon-SRAM still had four pawns in the leading group, I only had support from Lisa Klein. At the end I tried by accelerating, but I did not get any space. In the run-up to the sprint, Lisa and I managed to get on the track of Canyon’s train. At about 250 meters from the finish, I hopped on, successfully. It was the first time I took this race. I certainly did not know the entire track, but after some exploring on Tuesday I knew where the main strips were.”

It was the first victory of the season for Lepistö, the Finnish cyclist can confidently prepare for the races to come. “Creating a sequel in Gent-Wevelgem would be great, but I try to keep my mind off the Ronde van Vlaanderen for now. That race is very long and heavy, often somewhat tactical, a lot of spectators on the side of the road, etc. Anyway, with Cervélo-Bigla, we are well-armed for that heavy battle. I am fit, Lisa Klein is good, Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig already earned her stripes this season, and we still have Ashleigh Moolman coming over.”
