Plugstreets incorporated in 2018 route for Elite Women and U23

10 November 2017

The 'Plugstreets' are three semi paved roads, near the historically significant village of Ploegsteert, that where introduced last year in the Men's Elite race for the first time. Because the organisation of Ghent-Wevelgem saw this as an added value to the route, the Plugstreets will be added again in the route between Deinze and Wevelgem. But not only the men will have to conquer this obstacle, also the Elite Women and U23 will face those Plugstreets next year. Cycling enthusiasts who want to follow the race on that very spot will see three of the seven Ghent-Wevelgem races passing by.

More news for the fans of Women's Cycling: Elite Women will start on the Market Square of the beautiful city of Ypres again. Last year the start got moved to the nearby town of Boezinge, but this will remain a sole occurance.

For Elite Men the 80th edition of Ghent-Wevelgem won't be much different to last years. The final 160km will remain unchanged compared to last season's finale. The peloton will yet again pass through the windy 'Moeren', cross the border with France for a small bit and face the hills of the Heuvelland region.
